Right on Schedule (Part 3 of 3)

The end is near..no not for our suffering, but for this damn article. I was quite impressed with the Skins defense the first 4 games of the year, but the last 3 have been anything but impressive. If you watched closely in the Buffalo game..our d-line was getting pushed back at least 3 yards every run play, and barely getting any pressure on pass downs without bringing some sort of a blitz (even then the pressure was paltry).
During the offseason there was a serious emphasis on getting younger and getting quality players. Problem here is that you gave the new acquisitions "starter" money when they aren't anything more than rotational players. Don't get me wrong, I've been very impressed with Stephen Bowen this year...but if I'm paying a guy more than $25mil they better put up some sick numbers! And Barry Cofield has had his shining moments this year, but let's face it, he's playing out of position at NT/NG..and that again for the second straight year seems to be a gaping hole for this team. Adam Carriker is a strong S.O.B. but he's not an every down lineman. If you disagree with my assessment about our line please look at how many sacks they've had this year, and then proceed to look at the number of rush yards we have given up.
Now, I understand that the line can't be blamed when players aren't filling their gaps behind them, so let's just keep that ball rolling. The linebacker position is definitely the best part of this team. Yes, Orakpo and Kerrigan occasionally line up as down linemen, but nevertheless they're still locked in with Fletcher & McIntosh. London has been killing it this year! But let's face it, he's 36...and we need to start thinking of who is going to replace him. My first hope is Perry Riley, but with no offseason to work with coaches last year..he was set back another year. Look for him to get a shot toward the end of the season next to Fletch. Rocky has been inconsistent this year at best. He's made great plays followed by forgetting where his man is in coverage...not expecting him back next year.
Many of you are in love with D-Hall and his fantastic contract...NOT! DeAngelo, please don't tell the media that you want to cover the best players but the coaches won't allow it. We all saw what happened against Dallas, and frankly we see what happens every damn week. Actually, we almost miss it because we can't see you in the picture while you're standing 15 yards off the line of scrimmage. I don't care if you need to chase a receiver around for an hour straight...you're a cornerback and your job is to cover. I don't think there's a time limit on it, so stop whining...or at least do it in house and not to the whole world! I'm not overly concerned about Josh Wilson & Kevin Barnes, they both deserve to be back. But we need to look for a shutdown Corner.

*MY DREAM TRADE: MeAngelo Hall for Tim Tebow (not seriously...well kind of)
We lose a "me first" guy and get a quarterba...well that's probably not happening. But let's convert him to wide receiver and just throw it up to him in the endzone. I mean sh!t, if God really is on his side..maybe he'll forgive Danny Snyder for all his wrongdoing. We also free up a helluva lota cap space.
So to recap...to continue our rebuild, we need to add a nosetackle, inside linebacker, and a shutdown conerback. Our D has flaws, but not nearly as many as last year, and I can't wait to see what next year brings.
Some may ask why the hell am I already looking towards next year when it's only Week 9? Well Skins fans, it's because I've seen this movie before, actually more than 20 times before. I won't ruin it for you, but it's very sad, depressing, and with all hope most likely out the door in about 5 weeks. If I'm wrong I'll be ecstatic. But if I'm right..no need to worry...because the Skins rebuild is Right on Schedule.
