I Took the Orioles GM Job...Because I Got High

I thought there was supposed to be a light at the end of the tunnel? Well how damn long is this tunnel in Baltimore? It seems like no matter who our GM is, they all have the same philosophy...and that would be "don't spend, and lose lose lose". I guess it's OK if you want to shatter your fan base, and you don't care much for money. But come on man, Peter Angelos only brings in guys who will shine his shoes, do his dry cleaning, and maybe pick up a slugger who's 10-years past his prime (i.e. Sammy Sosa, Miguel Tejada, Manny Ramirez??).
Andy McPhail gave it his best shot the last few years, but our young arms have hit a wall, and I'm sure Angelos wouldn't give him the green light on many trades, or free agent acquisitions. So he knew that it was time to pack up and go.
Dan Duquette must have been hanging around Fred Davis, & Trent Williams when he made his decision to come back to baseball with the Orioles. Hell, Ricky Williams is right down the street so maybe he's giving him a good hook-up. You have to be high as a kite to take this job, and then come out during the winter meetings and say "We're not going after big name free agents. We'll get our players through trades, and just try to give our pitching staff more depth." Dan won't even give a free agent pitcher more than a 3-year contract. Good luck trying to lure those top players into Charm City with that philosophy.
And where are these trades going to come from? The only players we have that are worth anything are Nick Markakis, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Jim Johnson, & prospects Manny Machado, Xavier Avery, and Mychal Givens. And Machado better be untouchable!
We need to go out and get a player that's going to make other players actually want to come to Baltimore. The Nationals went out and did that last year with Jason Werth, little did they know..he's not very good. If the Orioles made an effort to go get the O-BEAST Prince Fielder, maybe it would finally make the League look at Baltimore in a way that they haven't in 14-years. And then Duquette may have full reign to go get the pitchers he wants.
Until we start looking at what's going to make Baltimore a winner sooner rather than later...we might as well keep hoping that Steve Biscotti will buy the team, or have Ray Lewis murd...I mean tackle Peter Angelos right out of the picture.

Feeling Golden

The Baltimore Orioles added to their collection of Gold Glove winners yesterday when Nick Markakis & Matt Wieters were handed the awards for their respected positions. This is the first time in 13 years that the Orioles have had multiple Gold Glove Award winners. It's about damn time Nicky got a Gold Glove...although his batting has dropped the past couple years, the one thing he can do is make a diving catch! Even when he doesn't dive, he's mowing down baserunners on the reg! Wieters (2011 All-Star) knows what it's like to throw out a baserunner or two. His fielding really picked up in 2011, and his bat finally started to come alive the last month of the season.

Here are a few quotes from the guys on receiving the honorable awards:

Matt Wieters-“I take a lot of pride in the award. It’s definitely something I always work at to get better, and to be able to win a Gold Glove, I’m honored to be in the same class as the other great catchers in the game defensively. It’s an honor for sure. I’m very blessed to be able to win the award this early in my career. I think it’s a tough award to win because different coaches are going to see you at different times. We have some guys like J.J. Hardy who could have won the ward, but you’re not always going to get the votes. Just to be considered in the same class as the top three or four defenders at your position is pretty special.”

Nick Markakis-“First off, just to be talked about in a class with a group of guys is one thing, it’s pretty cool. It’s definitely an honor. …it was a shock a little bit, it kind of shocked me. I know the [other] guys, the reputation that the guys have. It was definitely a cool honor and something I’ll always remember.”

Now, if only Peter Angelos would get lost at sea...

Chad Dukes Hang Up on You Too?

Motivation. If you take an action, an idea, a sentence, a product, anything at all, and break it down, what's inside? Some kind of motivation. This blog is no different. Although there are many different reasons for the creation of this blog, number one on the list is frustration. No, I was not hung up on by Chad Dukes, but there are countless who have. I'm sick and tired of listening to Chad Dukes put down callers, hang up on callers and basically act like one big douche just because he is sitting next to LaVar Arrington every day. When the show first started, listeners were able to call in, say what they wanted in an open forum and be heard without prejudice, judgment or interruption. Unfortunately for every DMV Sports fan, this is no longer the case. Every day on my drive to and from work my options for local sports radio are AM radio, or The Junkies in the morning and LaVar and Dukes on 106.7 the FAN in the evening. This blog is our putting an end to it. If you are SICK and TIRED of being treated like you don't know anything because you either aren't in radio, or haven't played professionally, join us in this quest. Join us in the revolution. Because every once in awhile, revolution is a good thing.

Right now there is only one option for sports radio in the DMV. Our goal is to double that. Check in daily for conversations, critiques, and about ANYTHING DMV sports. Shoot me an email if you have questions or something you want us to cover. DMV sports fans, we are here for you!

FIGHT ON DMV!
